America plans to build intelligent highways to reduce traffic accidents

With the rapid development of driverless technology, the United States plans to build an intelligent highway matching intelligent cars.

At present, driverless vehicles are developing in the direction of human like driving. Technicians hope that they can identify and respond to various emergencies on the road in a timely manner like humans. Many auto manufacturers say their driverless cars are safer than human driven cars, and the number of deaths in traffic accidents can be reduced by 35000 every year.

As there is no standardized mode for intelligent vehicles, in order to continue the popularization of road intelligence, it is necessary to understand how different car brands exchange data with intelligent roads. Many roads in the United States have been out of repair for a long time, and only a few kilometers have been intelligentized. President elect Trump has promised to rebuild infrastructure, but the project is expected to cost billions of dollars, which seems not to be favored by experts.

In addition, many states have invested themselves to try to promote intelligent highway technology. Ohio invested 15 million dollars in November 2016 to install optical fiber cable network and sensor system, while Utah and Virginia installed sensors and special short-range communication technologies for traffic signal lights and bridges respectively to feed back road information to driverless vehicles in a timely manner so that cars can respond.
